Sieltä on bussiyhteydet ympäri maata.
In English: I celebrated my first month in Ecuador with a small weekend getaway to Ecuador's biggest city Guyaquil and to the beach resort Montañita. Salinas feels so safe that the rest of the world starts seeming big and dangerous. Therefore it was good to escape for a while.
Traveling from Salinas requires first going to Guaranda and taking a bus from there. Guyaquil is about 200 km far, but the trip takes about 4,5 hours and costs 4 €, so approximately the same as going from Helsinki to Espoo.
In Guyaquil I got to see a bit different kind of life than here in Salinas that includes smart phones, iPads, nice cars and surfing. I soon have my birthday and had a bit of age crisis: I realized I was the oldest of the young. Because I am blond, people here tend to think that I am some five years younger than what I really am, and my true age always surprises them. According to my age, I should be married with kids already. Well, age is only a number. From this on I leave people thinking that I am 22.
Montañita is a beach resort with lots of life style hippies and surfers. It's not high season now it wasn't too full of people, but enough. The weather was cloudy but it was still warm, nice change after the coldness of Salinas. A night in a hostel cost some 6 €, a dinner (rice and fist + coca cola) some 3 € and a hamburger 1 €. Those are some examples what it costs to travel in Ecuador, if someone wants to visit me.
The plan was to return to Salinas on Sunday, but the bus from Montañita was full and then there was no busses to Guaranda, so ended up returning on Monday. On the bus I started feeling very strange. My throat and my whole body was hurting. At home I measured fever: 38,7. I spend the night feeling cold under a huge pile of blankets and being afraid of dengue fever, but the fever passed as fast as it came. Most likely it was caused by the change of altitude or temperature. In the morning I felt fine, and am now back at the office.
